This piece is called Strength of her Back. The first thing you see is the elephant. It is my interpretation of Ganesha. She also wears a crown, shaped like a the Scarab beetle. The scarab beetle is a symbol for the Egyptian god Khepri, Ra as the rising sun, was often depicted as a scarab beetle or as a scarab beetle-headed man. The ancient Egyptians believed that Khepri renewed the sun every day before rolling it above the horizon, then carried it through the other world after sunset, only to renew it, again, the next day. When i made this piece, I had just learned that i was carrying my twins, and i wanted to create something that signified this turning point, and the trans-formative change that I was going through. I was looking for renewal and rebirth.
